How it all started
Collin Perrone was a happy, healthy, fun-loving typical 11-year-old boy who loved soccer, Cub Scouts, and spending time with his family and friends. In April 2017, he was diagnosed with medulloblastoma (brain cancer). During his treatment, Collin was granted a wish from Make-A-Wish New Jersey, whose mission is to bring hope, strength, and joy to children facing critical medical conditions through customized wish experiences. Collin wanted to spend a week in the Bahamas with his Mom, Dad, and brother William.
Collin bravely battled the disease for 2½ years before passing away in July 2019 at the age of 13.
A few months later, at our town’s Community Day, Will and his friend Jeremy stood behind a folding table with a borrowed machine, spinning sugar into clouds for their friends and neighbors and collecting money to be donated in Collin’s memory.
What began as “Will & Jer Cotton Candy for a Cause” has returned to Greenwich Township Community Day every September since, now in its eighth year. The booth has grown a little bigger and the line a little longer, but the mission remains the same: every single dollar goes to Make-A-Wish New Jersey to grant wishes for children with critical illnesses, in loving memory of Collin.
